Purpose of deciding storm names directly in Spain

We now come to the objective of being able to directly name storms in this group in Southwest Europe, including Spain.

For example, for October 2025, the storm, or here DANA Alice, was immediately named by the official Spanish agency AEMET.

This allows:

  • Strengthening the consistency of the message official.
  • To improve communication with the public.
  • To facilitate government preparation for and response to adverse weather events, as well as post-storm preparation.

The goal is therefore educational, but also for the benefit of the public, the media, and emergency services.
